There are several types depending on the material or thickness, among which we highlight the following:

1. Solid cardboard

It is also called cardboard board. It is thin and has a smooth coated and soft part for easy printing. It is flat and waterproof.

2. Graphic cardboard

It is very thin and is used for thicker cardboard coverage. It is obtained by pressing several layers of paper spread on adhesive.

3. Gray cardboard

Also called stone cardboard because of its hardness. It is made with compact recycled paper and glue. Being so resistant, it can be reused several times.

4. Couché Cardboard

Its surface is covered by one or several layers of finer and colored paper. It can be fine, classic or modern.

5. Cardboard

This type of cardboard is thin because it is very compacted, although it is light at the same time. It allows printing on it with good quality and is one of the most used cardboard variants in packaging, especially for products with high sales and consumption. We can distinguish four types of cardboard:

  • Bleached solid: Obtained with bleached chemical paste inside and stucco on the outer layers.
  • Unbleached solid: It is more resistant than the first and is widely used for drinks.
  • Folding: It consists of several layers of chemical paste and is widely used in products that require cold (cardboard containers for frozen, for example).
  • Recycled fibers: It is composed of several layers with different types of recycled fibers.

6. Corrugated paperboard

It is probably the type of cardboard used in the industrial packaging industry for its strength and qualities. Usually company that manufactures eco packaging boxes use this type of cardboard.

It is a superposition of flute paper, that is, a corrugated iron and a liner or flat and thicker one, which are joined together by a special glue. It can be classified as follows:

  • One face (Single Face): It is the most fragile since it only consists of a corrugated iron and a liner.7
  • Single (Single wall): It is the most used for packing. It is made up of two corrugated sheets and two of liner.8
  • Double wall: They are used for products with greater weight due to their resistance. It has two corrugated plates and three liner.9
  • Triple Wall (Triple Wall): It consists of three corrugated sheets and four liner and is the most resistant.10
  • Likewise, corrugated cardboard is classified according to its thickness with different letters, some of the most common are: 11 12 The smaller the curves, the lighter it will be. The larger curves make the cardboard more robust and, in addition, stackable.

In conclusion, cardboard is one of the most important materials, together with wood, in the packaging sector, especially in the case of primary packaging, which are those that are directly in contact with the product, and in the packaging of protection, like corners to avoid the friction of the goods during the transport with the rest of the packing or merchandise. This classification will help us choose precisely the type of cardboard we will need depending on the shipping circumstances and the merchandise we want to transport.

3 Methods to Reduce Packaging Carbon

Waste and Pollution 3 Methods to Reduce Packaging Carbon and Take the First Step Towards a Green and Sustainable Business. 1. Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle Reuse: Use reusable packaging, always get opportunities that make sense for the environment. Reduce: Whenever possible, eliminate layers of wrappers used in products. An example of this is LUSH's unpackaged shampoo bars. Recycle: Increase the amount of recycled materials and packaging for, which can be re-approved at the end of use. 2. Sustainable and Innovative Packaging Consider unique and innovative materials with sustainable packaging . Also, consider the use of sustainable materials such as recycled and virgin paper and bio-plastics. Soy-based inks are a greener alternative because they are renewable sources and facilitate paper recycling. 3. Reduce The Energy Producing a package to logistics uses a significant amount of energy, but simplified consumption is reduced to optimize product delivery time ...

4 Advantages of Cardboard for Packaging

cardoboard boxes Cardboard is widely used as packaging material for shipping items. The use of cardboard has several advantages, since it protects the items shipped, is economical and easily changes shape. Many company including those who produces eco packaging  are using cardboard. We analyze some of these advantages 1. Protect items As packaging, the cardboard protects the items that are shipped or moved. Corrugated cardboard has several pieces of cardboard placed on top of each other to cushion fragile objects, such as pieces of glass, televisions, computers or delicate pieces of furniture with large flat surfaces. The more cardboard is placed on an article, the more cushioning and protection is created for items that fall. This also makes the item heavier and creates more packaging waste. 2. Cheap material Cardboard is cheap to produce, and is usually made of recycled materials and does not cost much money if purchased wholesale. Other packaging materials are made...
