Environmentally Friendly Packaging and Green Packaging
The results of various surveys and statistics reveal that consumers in all parts of the world have become increasingly aware of recycled packaging and its importance to the environment. This aspect of consumer behavior supported by government regulations in many countries will control companies, especially product managers and marketers, to use environmentally friendly packaging or green packaging. But the terms green packaging, recycled packaging, and environmentally friendly packaging have finally become the slogan that is widely used today. And therefore, procurement of environmentally friendly packaging materials even from trusted companies, can often be difficult.
It is important to keep in mind that this is not merely a matter of the production process method or the waste treatment method. Entrepreneurs should have a broad and comprehensive perspective on how to produce a product that does not damage the environment, and these are the key points that can be used as consideration in making decisions about what packaging material to use:
1. Can it be recycled? If so, is it only partial or whole?
2. Does the material come from sources that can be renewed?
3. Is the product biodegradable / biodegradable?
The three points mentioned above are fundamental factors and become a very important part in the decision making process. Apart from that, the company or business that uses the material should also evaluate the vendors or suppliers involved in the following matters:
What production processes and methods are applied by prospective vendors , as well as the method of shipping the packaging materials.
For products to be exported to the United States, the shipping packaging must absolutely comply with the rules of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
As for products to be exported to European countries, they must comply with EU (European Union) rules and various demands from retail associations ( retailer scoreboard ).
Some points that must be considered in making decisions regarding the use of environmentally friendly food packaging materials:
Can the packaging material reduce the size and weight of the finished product compared to using the material that is used now?
Does the use of the material increase the percentage of waste that can be reused and increase the ability to recycle it?
What is the percentage of the recycled content of the material and the percentage of renewable material source?
Will its use increase the aesthetic value of the product and also its logistics efficiency?
The point of the above points is that potential vendors must be able to ensure that in the production process they minimize the use of raw materials, CO2 emissions in small amounts, and ultimately produce true Green Packaging , which is very easily biodegradable in the soil.
Environmentally friendly packaging is an integrated part of the product itself and plays an important role in creating a first impression on consumers. Green Packaging is a very important decision for your product that will create a direct effect on the brand image which will ultimately affect sales. Decision making by consumers in the process depends on the packaging of a product. However, many businesses, in an effort to save budget, have turned a blind eye to the performance and aesthetics of the materials used for packaging.
Products that are neatly packaged and environmentally friendly packaging will make them stand out from competing products. Environmentally friendly packaging on your product can be a unique advantage of your product (unique selling proposition / USP) if highlighted through smart marketing. So move on to recycled packaging and witness your sales growth in the coming years.
